DIBELS

Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills

"DIBELS is a scientifically validated assessment instrument used to assess early reading skills.  DIBELS was first developed as a tool that would help identify children as early as possible who were not likely to read at grade level by the end of third grade (Farrell, 1)."

What are the DIBELS Measures?  Check out the DIBELS Parent Guide published by the Florida Center for Reading Research.

Our "formal" assessments are given 3 times a year.

Fall--August 2008

Winter--December 2008

                     Spring--May 2008

Once we have this data we, the teachers, are able to meet the needs of our students by using the data and assessment results to guide our instruction.  We progress monitor inbetween our "formal" assessments to make sure students are making progress and that the progress is adequate to help each individual child read at or above grade level by the end of third grade.
